2025 National Wine Day – Celebrate With Me & Experience Amazing Wines

by

Tasting wine in Penn Yan, Wine served in individual carafes.

It is no secret that I love wine. So you know I’m celebrating today – National Wine Day!

Here are the articles I’ve written in the last couple of years, divided by regions. I’ve also recorded podcasts highlighting wine areas that I have visited. You’ll find these articles and many others at https://jogoeseverywhere.podbean.com Enjoy!

Wine Pairing Articles

These articles are general food and wine (or candy!) pairings. They’ll give you lots of great ideas and a peek at my favorite restaurant. A couple of them include recipes. One of my personal favorites is a recipe for Chocolate Bark, best enjoyed with a glass of Merlot. It makes a perfect Christmas present or a hostess gift.

Sonoma County Wine Country

Ten days are not enough to explore wineries in Sonoma County, but it was a good start. After you read these articles, you will know where to start to plan your own wine country road trip

Finding Wine in the Finger Lakes

So many wineries nestle in the nooks and crannies alongside New York’s Finger Lakes, and even more perch atop the hillsides overlooking those lakes. You may go for the wine, but you will want to stay for the scenery and the food. I have so many recommendations, and I wish I could come along as your guide.

Yadkin Valley Creates Amazing Wine

Surry County’s Elkin area is home to more than forty wineries. Muscadine grapes, large and full of flavor, are native to the area. Other grapes grow well in the valley, too, particularly European and French-American Hybrids such as Petit Verdot, Chambourcin, Traminette, and Petit Manseng.

I would love to tell you that you can tour the Yadkin Valley in two weeks, but I won’t lie to you. Even if you could visit four wineries in a day (and you can’t), it would take you more than two weeks to visit all the wineries. When you meet the friendly North Carolinians and hear their amazing stories, you’ll want to stay put all day.

I was born and grew up in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The first “local” winery in my area was Woolwine Winery, now known as Chateau Morrisette. David Morrisette jokes that they had to change the name because no one could say it after three glasses.

Plan Your Next Wine Country Trip

For fantastic trips, try some of my favorite locations. Plan a trip to Corning and the Finger Lakes to visit as many wineries for tastings as possible, or take a road trip to North Carolina’s beautiful Yadkin Valley Wineries, or visit towns in Sonoma County. My favorite saying is so true: so many wineries, so little time!
